Alan and David welcome into the studio Alberto Troccoli, Managing Director of the World Energy & Meteorology Council, and visiting Professor at the University of East Anglia. As more and more of our energy requirements are met by renewables, weather data products have an increasingly important role to play in ensuring continuity of supply.
The World Energy & Meteorology Council (WEMC) is a company limited by guarantee, headquartered at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and incorporated in November 2015. WEMC’s mission is to promote sustainable energy for a low-carbon economy, enhance resilience of energy infrastructure and improve efficiency of energy systems.
WEMC leads and contributes to several projects, including Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and EU H2020. Specifically, WEMC has been coordinating the C3S Energy operational service and is a partner in the H2020 SECLI-FIRM and FOCUS-Africa projects. WEMC contributions span the more technical side of meteorological services as well as communication, design, exploitation of output, stakeholder engagement, including the organisation of an international conference Energy and Meteorology.
WEMC works also closely with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) with which it signed an MOU a few years ago. Moreover WEMC has several other collaborations such with EDF, RTE, ENEL Foundation.
Importantly, WEMC has developed a versatile and user friendly climate visualisation tool, used by energy experts and high school students alike. It’s called TEAL and is free to view it and use it at tealtool.earth
